Yesterday, Uma, my Nepali adoption agency rep, had a small party for us and the other families with the same agency at the orphanage she founded years ago. About 20 children ranging in age from 1 month to 10 live at the orphanage called Inspiration Society of Nepal. There were 5 children matched with American families when the program shut down. Uma is very afraid that these children will live in the orphanage forever now.
When we arrived we found a very excited group of children waiting for us. They greeted us with Namaste and each came up to us and said his/her name and age in English. The older children are all taking English classes. The home is three floors with a beautiful garden on the roof over looking a view of the hillside.
Sharon and Joe, who adopted a three year old little boy, noticed instantly that their son was nervous and clinged to them when entering the orphanage. Although it wasn’t his orphanage it brought back memories. Bina, Dee Dee’s daughter, also made sure the children new that DeeDee was her mommy.
Antara is too young and social and just mingled with everyone!
The children performed a traditional Nepalese dance for us. Antara loves to dance and joined the crowd. A 20 month old boy approached her and gave her a kiss. I am going to have to watch this girl.
The didis cooked a traditional Nepali dinner for us which included rice, beans and spicy potatoes.
We had a wonderful time and can only hope that these children will be adopted one day.
Antara is such a beautiful and happy girl. I can see the love in both of your eyes. It is obvious you belong together.
